The Tim Bacon Foundation is a Registered Charity (No. 1173108) and was established in Tim's name to recognise his achievements, continue his legacy and to echo his legendary spirit of generosity.
Tim was always vibrant, forever inspiring and generous of mind and spirit. The businesses he led and worked in together changed the face of Manchester's restaurant scene and he left his unique mark on friends, employees and customers alike.
Following Tim's passing in April 2016, I wanted to ensure that Tim's inspiring story was not forgotten and the best way to do that was to support the great people that helped him live with this disease that has become a part of so many people’s lives. With the help of friends and colleagues across the Living Ventures Group and beyond The Tim Bacon Foundation has been established with the declared aim, to support charities for people living with Cancer.
The first appeal to be undertaken by the Foundation was to support The Christie Hospital in their appeal to raise funds for the first Proton Beam Therapy centre in the UK located in Manchester. This first appeal raised a staggering £500, 000 which with matched European research funding was worth £1.5m to the centre.
The charity also supported the Maggie's Centre at The Christie who provide much needed free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends and is a key partner for the clinical services of the Christie Hospital.
The second year’s appeal sees continued support for Maggie’s and our main appeal beneficiary this year will be to help children’s cancer research though our support of Kidscan.
Foreword by Jeremy Roberts.
The first Appeal to be undertaken by the Foundation will be to support The Christie Hospital and University College London in their appeal to raise funds for Proton Beam Therapy centres in Manchester and London and Maggie's Centres who provide much needed free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends and is a key partner for the clinical services of the Christie Hospital.
Proton beam therapy is a specialist form of radiotherapy that can very precisely target certain cancers, increasing success rates and reducing side-effects. Its introduction to the UK will bring treatment closer to patients, mostly children with brain tumours, who are currently sent abroad for treatment, usually to the USA or Switzerland. I think you will agree that this is unacceptable and as such a fitting project with which to launch the Foundation.Donate
